Sustainability is an integral part of Kartonsan’s business strategy
Sustainability has a very important role in identifying Kartonsan’s strategy and corporate targets.
As a core value in shaping Kartonsan’s strategy and corporate targets, sustainability is also considered together with the economic growth and the ecological balance.
Modelling paper and cardboard producers at global scope that are focused on the use of waste paper for production and on developing sustainable forest projects, Kartonsan has determined its core and constant targets as using the maximum amount of waste paper in producing coated cardboard and minimizing the negative effects of its production cycle on the environment.
Kartonsan’s outstanding sustainability activities
Kartonsan is committed to working in line with legislation and ensures, the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System and the ISO 50001 Energy Management System.
The usage rate of waste paper in Kartonsan is exceeding the average use in Europe.
Kartonsan supports work and activities which are aimed at the protection and development of forested land and attaches importance to the effective use of forestry resources in line with the FSC®-CoC certification.
Within the scope of sustainability, Kartonsan continues to work in cooperation with suppliers, municipalities and waste paper collection organizations.
With the completion of the new investment in its wastewater treatment facility, Kartonsan started using the MBR (Membrane Biological Reactor) system in 2015, which allows approximately 3,200 m³ of the wastewater to be reused every day.
In line with its action plan presented in 2014 within the scope of the regulations related to greenhouse gas emissions, Kartonsan continues its monitoring and follow-up activities.
Kartonsan products are also certified by ISEGA Food Contact Certificate for compliance their use in packaging which comes in direct contact with dry food.
Kartonsan will continue to achieve maximum recycling rates with systematic work and by decreasing the consumption of natural resources as well as by using recycled materials at a maximum rate in the coming years, as it has in the past.

Our Sustainability Strategy is the instrument that guides us toward our Sustainability Purpose by turning our targets into action.
The strategy is grounded in our sustainability framework and aligned with our corporate targets.
It is also linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, to which Kartonsan contributes through its activities as a responsible corporate citizen.
Within our operating cycle, we analyse global and local sustainability trends and identify the potential risks and opportunities arising from them.
We then examine the issues likely to affect our Sustainability Strategy and plans, and update our risk management actions accordingly.

Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a new and widely accepted set of actions that United Nations member states have built upon the Millennium Development Goals, which they had committed to fulfilling by 2015.
Adopted in 2000, the Millennium Development Goals addressed a wide range of issues, including poverty, hunger, disease, gender inequality and problems of access to water and sanitation. At the Rio+20 Conference in 2012, it was decided to develop a new set of goals with broad stakeholder participation, and work began accordingly. The 17 SDGs, developed with extensive involvement of the global private sector, were announced in 2015.
The SDGs aim to address the root causes of poverty and to deliver development, as a universal need, for everyone. The global consensus reached around the SDGs marked a significant turning point in steering our planet toward a more inclusive and sustainable growth path.
Today, tens of thousands of companies and civil society organisations around the world are going through new and exciting processes in line with the targets defined under the SDGs. The conventional way of doing business is being reconsidered in the light of the universal criteria of sustainability.
Kartonsan contributes directly to the 8 goals that fall within its primary area of impact, given their prominence in relation to its activities. The contribution to these goals is detailed in the 2025 Annual Report.
